I could hardly contain my excitement when I received a call from Kerry Maule at the Made in Leeds TV channel asking if she could interview me about my book which will then be featured on The Lowdown Show!! My constant hounding of various media establishments had paid off. Film location: The Grove Bookshop in Ilkley; Subject: “Pringles, Visas and a Glow in the Dark Jesus”.
I was picked up by Kerry and cameraman Harry in the morning and we chatted all the way to Ilkley – I feel I may have said the all best things in the car and not in front of the camera but I will soon find out when it airs! I had thought of lots of humorous things to mention like Amazon placing my book in the religion category which would put my book in direct competition with the bible…or how the glow in the dark Jesus was only spotted on the wall of the dormitory in the Rwandan missionary when the lights were turned off at bedtime…and how Pringles were a sought after commodity on the Everest Base Camp trek which increased in price the higher we walked due to some poor sod having to carry them up the mountain…but it was all forgotten as soon as the camera started rolling.
It took Harry just minutes to set up the huge camera on his tripod (why modern technology hasn’t made them smaller I really don’t know) and with his furry wind muff on the microphone pointing at me filming began. It was a very relaxed affair…perhaps too relaxed as I started chatting away forgetting that it was actually going to being viewed by several thousand people! The whole ‘shoot’ took less than an hour before they were dashing off to their next location and I was heading to Carluccio’s Italian restaurant for lunch with my Dad.
It was a fun experience due to the likeability of Kerry and Harry – I just hope that when I see the playback of the interview on the Made in Leeds TV channel at 6.30pm on Tuesday 27 September I will not be cringing too much!
Wow I wish Alan and I could see it. Take care A&A
